I’ve seen with the incised “Bags by Bishop” mark on the lid the
interior. Because of the similarities of construction, these bags are often
attributed to Tyrolean if unmarked. The translucent orange and amber diagonal stripe
makes a flamboyant statement. It has a beautiful interior glow.The reverse curve of
the handles echoes the curvaceous form of the bag. Gold metal floral filigree covers

individually cut inlaid opaque and marbleized lucite. The back of the bag is plain

990800: One of the rarest of all vintage lucite bags, this horizontal cylinder shape is a
collector’s dream! Illustrated on page 33 of Gottlieb’s "A Certain
Style," this Llewellyn bag was made between 1953 and 1956. The amber colored end
caps, spherical feet and carved handle beads are BAKELITE. The center clear section is
surface and reverse carved lucite. Signed in embossed lettering on the inside of one of
the endcaps "Lewsid Jewel Llewellyn Inc. NYC" with their facets jewel logo.
Unique metal conduit handle. Gold metal fittings are all in excellent condition. There is
some fogging on the interior, so commonly seen in these bakelite-Lucite combination bags,

990132: Greenish-Gray Llewellyn Lucite bag with black overdye detailing as illustrated on
page 21 of Dooner. These early Llewellyns with the stirrup latch frequently show slightly
upturned corners, apparently due to stresses on the lid from the attachment of the metal
bar across the front of the bag. We couldn’t help noticing a "pagoda-like"
contour which gives the bag a special charm. The latch is solid and keeps the bag firmly
closed. The double-hinged half round handles appear a slightly different color, more like
a gun metal gray with black overdye. Marked on interior hinge.

A00372: A lovely Majestic Black Lace evening bag in an unusual truncated Cone Shape. Is just wonderful sculpture! The Lotus leaves in the lace are outlined in silver thread, and the overall impression is that of a filmy, transparent veil. The gold satin bottom lining is marked “Majestic” in gold lettering, and shows small brown stains and light wear. The lacquered finish on the metal work is spotty and shows numerous areas of wear and darkening, especially on the metal strap handle and the lid. Tortoise Bakelite bag is a perfect example of why these bags are so sought after! The nearly round body transitions to a 3 1/2 inch
square opening at the top, adorned with a one-inch thick complex beveled lid. The inside surface of this lid shows very fine
web-like crazing in certain lights. The
rounded body perches solidly on four amber hemisphere feet.
An interesting and enlightening feature of the piece is the long rivet
designed handle attachment, whose reversed curved finish terminates permanently in a

Unusual twisted lucite handle. The bag has some wear and small cracks from the lid’s weight at the 2 hinge rivets at either end of the piano hinge. Measures 7x4x4.5". oval body is formed of a single piece of cool green, gold strand embedded Lucite. The body
is capped by 1/4" thick diamond carved clear ends. The same diamond pattern adorns
the carved 1/2" thick lid. The outstanding surface and reverse carved 1/4"
handle adds contour and height to this great bag. The closure is an art deco detailed
turn-style latch. At one time there were feet on the bottom but none are present now.
